All black casual outfits

Wearing all black casual outfits, and fancy ones come to that, is very much back on the agenda. Black is most definitely back. But how can you wear it this Winter without looking fierce? It’s always tricky to wear predominately one colour, but wearing black can be, well a bit mournful, a bit edgy or just a bit dull. So how can a midlife woman wear this new trend without these undesirable results? I’ll share some ideas I have to help make it work and I have found some great recommendations for you too.

All black casual outfits can be elegant, stylish and chic. I’m going to concentrate on matching wooly jumpers with long skirts in this post. Flowy skirts are a great way to soften the colour black and as we are in the height of Winter right now, we need comfortable jumpers with tees for layering. Boots are also called for. Not stomping great ones but elegant, stylish though comfortable ones. Us women over 40 still want to look a little edgy after all…

So, things to consider when dressing in all black casual outfits – mix the textures (it’s better to have wool with something soft and flowy); wear something with a word on (like a piece of jewellery or like my ‘love’ jumper) to break it up with a subtle statement; avoid wearing black tights (but maybe tan your legs a bit – I forgot!); wear your hair down or a soft looking up style; wear a boot with a bit of a heel (but a comfortable pair).

What other tips would you have for a woman over 40 wearing all black casual outfits? Tell me in the comments below, I always love to hear from you!

Black on black on black can definitely be edgy and the style comes from the piece pairing, textures, and accent. Cute blog name BTW!

It can be a hard look to wear sometimes. Maybe you could add a soft off-white scarf, or break up the look a little with a white tee underneath that just shows..? x

I walk the dogs every day so I have some very muddy boots too! I grade my boots according to how old, special, delicate etc they are. Some, like these are good all-rounders and are currently going strong. Tee shirts and jeans are one of my favourite looks too Sarah! x
