This Autumn 2017 style for women over 40 includes 3 key dress styles you need to know about. They are contemporary, flattering, easy to wear (I mean we like our clothes to be comfortable, right!?) and perfect for transitioning into the colder months. These are some of my favourite looks because they are feminine. Some are even great for wearing with ankle boots!
Midlife fashion does not need to be boring. Us mature women still want to feel fabulous and love to dress in stylish, chic and contemporary clothes. Although, I don’t believe in being a slave to fashion – I want to keep up with it, sure, but the most important thing to me is that the styles and colours accentuate my figure and complexion and that they give me the confidence I deserve.
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. There is no need yet to be concealed in layers of sheepskin and yet it is cool enough for combining dresses with boots and jackets.

The Wrap Dress
The dress I am wearing is a comfy jersey. I kid you not, it’s as comfy as wearing jogging pants. My favourite is this gorgeous Navy Wrap Over Draped Jersey Dress – the colour is incredible and the texture is a bit like velvet! This one is a ‘dressy’ one – perfect because it’ll take you into the Winter party season.
For running round a town I’d recommend flat shoes, or fairly low heels. Wedges are for summer and high heels are for best. Personally I can wear high heels in short spurts, but kitten heels I can wear all day!
I love pairing dresses with a leather jacket. It’ll keep the cold and wet off nicely and looks a bit ‘chic’ a bit ‘rock’.
If you want a subtle slit in your wrap dress (some, like mine, are slit free!) go for this Curves Wrap Dress. It’s super flattering as it highlights the waist. It comes in plain colours too but this one is patterned and it’s my favourite.
A really user friendly dress is this 3/4 Sleeve Tie Front Wrap Dress It comes in a Royal purple, which is a great colour for perking up paler Autumn skin. It is the kind of dress you can wear at work, out for lunch with the girls, or add a string of pearls and you have a going out outfit!

Key dresses for this Autumn 2017 style for women over 40 has to be the curve loving, boob skimming, waist nipping wrap dress. It has become a modern classic because us women love to feel feminine.
The Kimono Dress
I love this look, I think it’s very lady like. I’m quite partial to combining lightweight skirts and dresses with chunky knits in Autumn, but my leather jacket is better suited for around the town. This is England after all and drizzle weighs down a chunky knit!
My favourite one is this floral Kimono Wrap Dress which has a pop of pink (very similar to the one I’m wearing) but has a V-neck, with shorter sleeves and soft pleating in the front. I have mine on order! I can’t wait to wear it, it’s so pretty and feminine.
You can also find some great kimonos in a block colour. I really love this black Wrap Over Kimono Dress – it would be perfect for work. I really love the shape of it – especially how it’s cut to give you long slim arms. It’s crying out for a belt. So, you can add a pop of colour there.
If you want a colour block kimono I would recommend this purple Purple Closet Kimono Wrap Dress. It has a round neck, but it shows a little more leg. It’s another great dress for work and play, depending how you accessorise. The colour has a beautiful tone.

This Autumn 2017 style for women over 40 has ancient meeting contemporary with the Kimono dress. In a way it’s a twist on the wrap dress. It has loose and flattering sleeves and is a strong look this year, with no sign of it disappearing yet.
Dresses For Boots
The best look is bare legged, I’m afraid. It’s not so bad, though, you have nice warm boots (and a pair of hidden boot socks) on after all. Dresses should be loose or flowy.
There is a certain freedom to wearing this look. It’s comfortable, so wonderful for busy days on your feet, and it’s still feminine.
I adore this Long Sleeve Gathered A-Line Dress. It has a mandarin collar neck that is really fashionable at the moment. It’s a cute look. I think I’d describe the colour as fern, but I know that doesn’t do it justice. It’s loose and above the knee, so would pair great with some ankle boots.
If you want a dress to wear with boots with a gorgeous flared hem, you’ll love this Velvet Skater Dress it has a fabulous print! (Warning – larger sizes are selling out!)
I really love this Grey Panelled Volant Skirt Dress (actually nicer than the one I’m wearing above!). It’s similar but cut in panels to give a really flattering shape. Don’t be put off by the word ‘grey’, it has a wonderful warm tone, take a look. It’ll suit blond, brunette or black hair. It’s an easy dress to wear and comes in Taupe (looks more like cream to me!), Pink (think raspberry/cherry smoothie)(smaller sizes are selling out!), Cream (paler than the ‘taupe’) (lovely, if you have a sterile lifestyle – not me!) and Navy (fab colour and great for work).
When I was 20 (waaaay back in the 80’s) I used to wear boots with girly dresses and I still stand by it. I love that combination still and Autumn is the season to really go with it!
