Driving Alpha Romeos through Southern Tuscany

As a special 50th birthday treat my husband booked 3 vintage cars on our trip to Montepulciano. Driving Alpha Romeos through Southern Tuscany might just be the most wonderful thing I dreaded doing. I know it’s an experience of a lifetime and a romantic thing to do, but I’m a girl with a midlife preference for comfort. Hiring vintage soft-top cars to power along dusty tracks through Tuscan vineyards, some without seat belts (or I suspect suspension) turned out to be hugely exhilarating and memorable.

I can’t pretend it was the most comfortable road trip I’ve ever experienced. I was shaken to the core and coated in a film of dust upon arrival to all the Tuscan hill top towns. The cars rattled as well as roared. But, despite myself I flung my arms into the air as we sped through some of the most stunning countryside I have ever seen…

PIN this for later!

The best way to know if driving Alpha Romeos through Southern Tuscany is for you, is to enjoy this Vlog. Better than me putting it into words…

We booked these vintage Alpha Romeos through Your Secret Tuscany.

This is NOT a sponsored post, I’m just sharing the love.

The cars turned up on the back of a car transporter. It took the men no time at all to get them off and park them up in our villa driveway.

Italy is probably our favourite place to go. It’s the country we always return to. I’m yet to do Southern Italy, but would recommend the rest full heartedly! x

Oh wonderful!! The wine tour and lunch was stunning. It was a real test of discipline for the drivers who could only sip the incredible wine a little. Have a fantastic time (make sure someone else drives ;O) x

What a great idea for a celebration! I’m kind of with you on the comfort and safety side of things, and no waaaay I’m wearing that leather hat and goggles, but at the same time, there’s a real romance to driving through Italy in such gorgeous vehicles! Great photos.

Thank you! Haha yes, that hat was a bit peculiar! It took me a while to get my head around the safety aspect. I wouldn’t have been happy if the kids cars had no seat belts. But, I have to say, it was rather freeing in the end! x

What fun! I’m with you, I prefer a little comfort in my travel, but this sounds like a great experience! And that little medieval town looks so neat. I’m a sucker for little towns like that. It really looks like you had an awesome time – what cool cars!

Hi Danielle. I’m with you about the comfort aspect completely! But once we got going I got really into it haha! Tuscany is full of beautiful hill towns, it was incredible x
