These healthy frozen salted chocolate covered bananas are so easy to make and the step by step recipe shows you how to ensure the best result every time.
Bananas are one of natures prepackaged health foods. Dark chocolate also has some real health benefits, so this is a healthier way to enjoy a frozen snack. Frozen bananas and chocolate together are absolutely delicious, especially as we add a sprinkle of salt which seasons the frozen treat beautifully.
Then to make it even more indulgent and healthy we dress the dark chocolate in chopped nuts, cocoa nibs and a few other decorations. It gives these frozen chocolate bananas an exceptional bite.
They are also rather beautiful (in their way)
Dressed in desiccated coconut, cocoa nibs, chopped up pistachios and popping candy (ok this one is not sooo healthy – but it pops! so we’ll let it be).
You can dress them in anything you fancy, even adding a mixture of things.
How to make frozen salted chocolate covered bananas
You will need
- 6 ripe bananas
- 300g chocolate (I used Lindt 70% salted, but 85% is another favourite of mine – just add a little salt yourself)
- wooden lolly sticks (I got mine from amazon)
- Decorations: desiccated coconut/ cocoa nibs/ pistachios finely chopped/ poppy candy
Chop off the ends of your bananas to straighten them slightly, then insert the lolly sticks. Don’t throw the ends away – pop them into a freezer bag and freeze them ready for your next smoothie.
Place them onto some parchment paper onto a tray that fits into your freezer. Leave them in for a few hours.
Just before you take the bananas out, melt your chocolate and get your decorations ready.
How to melt dark chocolate
Put on a pan of water and bring to the boil. Turn the heat off. Meanwhile, break the chocolate up and place into a heat proof bowl. Now the water has boiled place the bowl over the steaming water to melt (make sure the water doesn’t touch the bowl directly). Stir occasionally. If the chocolate is too warm, take the bowl off the pan, add a few more pieces of chocolate and stir gently until they are incorporated in.
Now you want to move fairly quickly. Remove your frozen bananas from the freezer.
Tip: Pour the melted chocolate into a thin jar or tumbler and dip the banana in there. Or you can just spoon it over and let it drip back into the bowl. The chocolate will set quickly so decorate them with speed and flourish!
Enjoy your frozen salted chocolate covered bananas as a snack or a healthy dessert!
