I’ve started buying little packets of trail mix this year because I promised myself to only nibble on healthier snacks. I’ve been going through indecent amounts, so it’s high time for me to prepare some of my own homemade trail mix. You can play around with healthy ingredients, but keep in the chocolate. Healthy dark chocolate snacks somehow feel like a treat, no matter what the chocolate is nestling up against. My healthy, homemade chocolate, fruit and nut trail mix is full of healthy nibbles and it still tastes indulgent!
My love affair with chocolate, fruit and nut lasts as far back as my memory allows. With this healthy homemade snack I can graze relatively guilt free and cheaply. Bare in mind tho’ it is very important to use a very good quality chocolate chip. Vital, in fact. If your supermarket doesn’t do one chop up your favourite dark chocolate bar!
So, if like me, you want to take a step towards healthier choices, without going nuts, this could be a great snack for you to make yourself too! The only issue here is portion control. I can nibble on healthy snacks like these moreish morsels without any idea on how much I have eaten! Well, what I’ve started doing is pouring out a portion in a favourite dish and the rest is out of reach keeping super fresh in an air tight container. It’s all good!
Ingredients for this healthy homemade chocolate fruit and nut trail mix
100g roasted natural peanuts
125g chocolate chips – good quality
100g dried berries and cherries mix (or raisons)
75g goji berries
50g pumpkin seeds
50g sunflower seeds

Tip ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Store in an airtight container. Yup – that’s it!
