As a fruit crumble loving English woman getting the best crumble recipe has been an obsession. This is my best berry crumble but you can add this topping to any fruit mix you desire. Crunchy and crumbly, this recipe has only 6 ingredients so it’s an easy to make dessert the whole family will love.
This is a really easy crumble recipe using frozen fruit and biscuits for a quick crumble topping. It tastes like a classic British crumble but with out all fuss.
Crumbles are a British staple and rather beautiful in a rustic way. Gorgeous mainly because we know that the intense fruitiness is there beneath that golden crumb.
Thick custard was the today’s choice, it’s goes particularly well with the tart cherries in my best berry crumble, but a quality vanilla ice-cream is a great option too!
That sweet and tart berry juice collects at the bottom and is absolutely delicious!
How to make the Best Berry Crumble
- 450g frozen mixed berries – mine included cherries which made it extra good I think
- 1 lemon
- 200g of continental biscuits. I used 100g Jules Destrooper Almond Thins + 100g Reflets de France Galette Butter Biscuits from Brittany
- 40g butter
- 100g golden caster sugar
- 1/2tsp cinnamon
Set your oven to 220C and get out 6 ramekins.
Empty your frozen berries into a bowl (no need to defrost) and add the zest of the lemon.
Now squeeze over the juice of 1/3 to 1/2 of your lemon depending how huge it is.
Mix it up and that’s the best berry fruit crumble base done. Pinch a few berries as chefs perks then set it aside. Now, gently melt your butter.
and smash up the biscuits using a rolling pin – literally roll over them!
Now you can add the cinnamon into your melted butter.
Next, add in the golden caster sugar.
Mix it all up with your biscuit crumbs and you have a golden crunchy crumble topping!
Time to assemble your crumbles into the ramekins. First add a little crumb to the bottom, it’ll soak up some of that delicious berry juice.
Next pile in those beautiful berries.
Then add on your remaining topping.
Pop into the oven until piping hot and golden, between 10-15 minutes.
Then, get your shoes off, get comfy, take your time and enjoy!
This really is my best berry crumble. It’s a recipe I return to again and again. Give it a go and let me know what you think.
