I’ve found a fantastic new pub for you in Surrey. It’s a proper English pub with a giant bar for drinkers and a smart restaurant for eaters.
You can dress up, or dress down, go with a group or like me, grab your fella and take him on a lunch date.
We arrived early so had time to explore the gardens. There were lots of different areas, with some shaded and some in the sun.
This area has smaller tables for romancing couples.
Other areas have larger tables for families and friends.
Heading inside, there is a huge bar area with a few locals reading newspapers and others catching up with gossip.
The restaurant area inside is lovely, all homely as the best English pubs are!
In addition, blankets are at hand if you get chilly. It’s a great idea for those lingering evening meals in the garden.
Today the sun shines through making parts of the dining area bright and cheerful.
Our table is this cozy nook. We’re very happy to settle in these comfortable chairs and while away a few hours.
The menu is full of the crowd pleasers you’d expect (and crave) along side a few curve balls like sautéed potato gnocchi with roast vegetable ratatouille, feta, capers and basil with a choice of garlic and thyme chicken or spring veg. Sounds delish.
I ordered a gin and tonic. I’ve recently got into these with the up surge of new botanical brews. This was so refreshing and delicious, I would definitely order one again next time.
Our starters arrived looking bright and fresh.
Andy ordered this Sautéed wild mushrooms on toast, shaved parmesan & rocket. He was very happy with it, eating every last bit.
I ordered this wonderful starter. Asparagus and pea shoot salad, soft goats’ cheese, peas, soy beans, mixed seeds,lemon & elderflower dressing,toasted sourdough. Besides, I felt good eating this. It was healthy without being mean or lacklustre.
Andy and I chatted mainly about our children, how they are doing, when we are all getting together and what food should we prepare? I could try to copy my starter for a light lunch or Andy’s starter would make a great breakfast.
My main dish was from the special menu. Belly of pork with smooth mash, a gravy (or jus…) and a tempura coated apple chunk. It was scrumptious!
Andy also ordered from the specials. Cue the second rate description. Erm, this was sea bass, spinach, sauté potato and (I’ve checked with Andy) a luscious sauce.
Time for desserts. I couldn’t resist ordering another cocktail. Just in the name of research. Yes, I can report that this was also very very good. Cocktails lovers are safe here.
This was the Poached pear, blueberry & almond tart, blueberry coulis & crème fraiche. Now with a heavy heart I have to say that it was a little claggy. BUT, the flavour was fantastic, so perhaps this was just a bad bake?
Andy thorough enjoyed this Raspberry cheesecake fool, crumbled orange & lemon shortbread.
Therefore, I would definitely recommend this pub. It’s a gem. We are planning to return soon, with our kids and their partners. They will love it too. Give us a wave. We’ll be taking the table left of the fire place (it’s a good’un).
