Chapels and cemeteries are, I find, rather heartwarming places to visit (particularly in the sunshine). When tended well, they seem full of love, care and respect. Watts Chapel in the Surrey Hills, is all that and more. Watts Chapel is a beautiful and rather magical place. The cemetery has an emotive atmosphere.
The Watts Gallery is snugly placed in the Surrey Hills and is an art heritage site. George Frederic Watts was considered the greatest painter of the Victorian Era and is dubbed ‘England’s Michelangelo’. I’d occasionally seen his work in TV history programmes as they marked the most pressing themes and ideas of his generation.
Hubby has always wanted to visit Westminster Abbey. We have been inside cathedrals all over Europe but have never made it here. Nuts considering we’ve both lived south of London all our lives. The Abbey, it turns out, is amazing and crammed with so much of our history we were quite blown away.
