What to wear to Claridges Afternoon Tea

Look no further if you are needing to know what to wear to Claridges Afternoon Tea (or High Tea if you prefer) other than a tea dress. Elegant, stylish and smart clothing is the way to go. You could go more casually, of course, although some restrictions do apply in their dress code. I’ll give you more advice below. Personally, I think it is an occasion to wear something beautiful and stylish. The room will be full of chic looking ladies, so I have some gorgeous outfits to recommend to you too.

‘Elegant smart casual’ is the description given by Claridges. It’s a little ambiguous but includes dresses, day dresses and jumpsuits. Some smart jeans and blouses are considered smart casual, but note the word ‘elegant’. You’ll blend more if you wear the former. Rather than concentrate on dresses, today I want to focus on what to wear at Claridges Afternoon Tea other than a tea dress.

I feel like Afternoon Tea it is the perfect excuse to dress up in a frivolous skirt and a lace topped camisole, topped with a smart jacket. Layering is a good idea, especially in colder months, when you turn up all goose bumps but quickly warm up in a room full of folk drinking tea.

What To Wear To Claridges Afternoon Tea. Wearing A Cami And Skirt.

Wearing a cami and skirt with a jacket on top.

It may seem a bit crazy, the idea of wearing a camisole in a room where the ceilings are sky high, but the Claridges Reading Room gets pretty warm as it is a very popular at Afternoon Tea. There is a blazing fire in the entrance (lovely for photographs ladies) so you will warm up nice and quickly.

So, let’s look at camisoles

Wear layers in case it gets hot.

I love a really pretty camisole with lace. This delicate sleeveless lace top is a lace lovers dream and is currently 1/2 price at £19!!

If you prefer a plain camisole this beautifully shaped classic camisole  has a great shape and is also 1/2 price at £17.50!

Another option if you think a camisole is perhaps a little too revealing (and sometimes I’m not in the mood to have my arms out either) is this pretty pale pink Lace Fitted Top with Collar currently discounted to £31.50 (comes in grey and navy too)!

Long luscious skirts!

I absolutely love this elegant pleated skirt it is a dusky blush colour (so IN at the moment). HURRY it’s a complete bargain at the moment at £38.50!

My skirt is a few years old now but I have found some that are pretty similar. It’s this chic pleated skirt with a beautiful metallic Jacquard print  and this this gold pleated floral skirt  which has a gorgeous pattern (in beautiful colours!).

I have found a satin skirt that has the most beautiful tone of colour – this green satin pleated skirt  – it’s new in but keeps selling out so catch it if you can!

These incredibly elegant metallic court shoes are to die for and I am also totally crushing on these blue velvet court with a Mary Jane strap  – gorgeous silhouette!

These are probably the most similar pair to my L.K.Bennett shoes and they are HUGELY DISCOUNTED at the moment!

If you are looking for a black pair these classy black suede shoes are my favourite.

What a lovely post! I really like the layered style, because it’s so versatile, visually appealing and comfortable. By pairing the lacy camisole with a cardigan, you can adapt to fluctuations in temperature, and avoid sweating!

I know haha I’m not a warm bodied person, but put me in a room full of tea drinking ladies and even I get toasty!

Maria, lovely recommendations. I always dress up for a posh hotel tea. I wouldn’t dream of going to a place where people are splashing out for an afternoon tea in a lovely atmosphere in any attire that would bring down the tone of the place! #TriumphantTales

Hello Maria, a pleasure to “meet” you through blogging. I love your blog and style. This outfit is super elegant, feminine, sexy and beautiful. It is also dressy and fancy for the season and I love that it is not the typical outfit you see these days. I want to copy it. You have inspired me. That skirt is marvelous by the way and I love the silk camisole, too.

I love love love my L.K.Bennett shoes too Mainy (the link to this seasons version is in the post)! Full skirts hide my tummy really well as the billow out ALL around my middle. I feel it’s better to keep the top tighter and/or simpler tho’ otherwise it can look a bit much! x
